For 10 years Ive worked as receptionist at a mom and pop owned shop. Its a salon/personal service type setting. One owner/boss and about 5 employees and a receptionist.
Most recently the owner has brought back in a co worker who has moved away in the past and this person is now going to be a “manager” of the shop, a position that has never existed here, its just been the owner running things above all of us. The manager has put together an employee handbook (puzzle pieced from other corporations handbooks) and is forcing all existing employees(and future) to sign. My questions are:
1> Do i have to sign this?
2> If i don't sign, do they have the right to terminate me?(this i actually want, i am ready to leave but id rather be let go for unemployment reasons)
3>How would I go about resigning if this is not subject for termination?
Long story short, this co worker ive known to get on power trips when in positions of power, ive worked alongside them for years and for these reasons i'd never want to work beneath them and no one saw this change happening at our work place at all…kind of just outta nowhere , and this handbook just doesn't seem entirely fitting for our small team of under 10 employees, it put a sour taste in my mouth. I'm ready to go and leave, but i want to do this in a way that works best… i'll be honest i've not worked many places, ive been here for 10 years and just kind of stuck with it so i feel so lost right now in how to go about this.. thanks for any advice or anything to say
