I have a 2015 BMW in good shape that my wife and I share. I have an 800 sqft house on a shared lot. I can walk to 1 park and i have a nearby bus stop. I can afford to pay my bills, eat good food, and spend some money on fun. I can take a moderate vacation (ie roadtrip somewhere in state) once a year. I work from home so I can actually take some degree of care of myself.
I have a PhD and I work in tax accounting. My wife is a JD working as a trial attorney. We are both about 3 years into our careers.
Three years into professional careers after getting advanced degrees, and that's our upper limit. It is fucking insane that this is what it takes. My dad painted cars at a body shop and my mom stayed home, and they had a house twice the size of mine, two cars, and took regular vacations.
