Idk if it's against the rules to call out a company name, but I worked for a certain gaming company that's only alive due to a Reddit meme and wall street bets.
I worked at their refurbishment center doing PS4s. My wage for learning how to diagnose, repair, and clean gaming systems? $16/hr. For sitting on uncomfortable metal and wooden stools in a dusty roach filled warehouse.
The only reason I tolerated it so long was the 4×10 schedule.
So every now and then we have a corporate business meeting and I'm not exaggerating when I say every time they take something away from us.
1st meeting. We no longer get bonus checks for hitting production.
2nd meeting. We no longer get merch for our birthdays! We can wholesale it!
3rd meeting. We were out a week due to the winter storm and guess what? This is the first year the time off is going unpaid use your PTO to cover it lol.
Over the years and months the #1 highest asked question is when are we getting raises? Well guess what! They're here!!! We in our massive generosity are giving y'all a 30c raise!!! But there's a catch. To earn this raise you have to have better production. Therefore we are removing one of your two 15 minute breaks from the schedule, but don't worry we'll add 5 minutes to your lunch to make up for it!
What a joke. We're the most profitable part of the company BY FAR they say we're 70-80% of the company's revenue. And yet they can't even shell out a 30c raise without taking something in return?
The whole room went quiet and started asking “wtf” among themselves after this announcement. One dude straight up got up and left. I left days after this bs. I know the company should have bankrupted during covid, but come on man. And they wonder why 90% of people quit within 7 months.
Everyone I started with quit before 3. Of the second group I got put with I'm the only one left. Or at least I was. The work we do is easily worth at least $20/hr if you ask me.
Most of the staff are people who can't speak English. Either from Vietnam or Africa. I assume this is how they keep wages low.
