Firstly I live in the UK and with probationary periods being a thing I understand that this was likely entirely legal.
I had recently left a steady job for a bit of a risk of a newcomer to the same market after being approached on LinkedIn. Upon joining in my first week I was greeted with about two training sessions and beyond that I was expected to learn the product range with self study. No problem I thought as I had been in the industry for a while it was all relatively similar.
I was expected to generate new business and got going with some social networking and with it being holiday period it was relatively slow plus I unexpectedly got covid cancelling a customer visit I had booked in my second week. Fast forward to this week and I did a roleplay presentation with my direct manager. Admittedly nervous I did fluff my lines a bit but I took the feedback on board and put it into action with some good success in customers leading to some visits being booked in October and later in the year.
I was then told today that my contract would be terminated due lack of presentation skills and face to face customer visits. I would argue that I’d just bedded in and was beginning to get to grips with the new role which they admitted when I started I was junior but me asking my manager for help was apparently “not what we expected from you”
Am I being wrong here or does it seem off?
