Job lied about work-life balance

I work for a “mission driven organization” (enough said?) and I was told there is a good work life balance. That is not true. If something comes up after hours or on a weekend, the expectation is you’ll have your laptop ready to go. The boss is a workaholic and he sets an unhealthy precedent for every one else. I just started last month so I’m afraid to set boundaries but I hate how it’s “the norm” for people to work late and that they throw around “it may need to be done Saturday” as if that isn’t a work contract violation, or requiring a weekend work event (even if it’s masked as being voluntary, you can’t say no without it looking bad on you). What’s the best recourse? Preferably I don’t want to get fired, but it’s making me feel overwhelmed and resentful and is causing me to make…
