I've been out of work for a while now due to mental and physical health issues. A couple of the places in my area always have Now Hiring signs up, and I pretty easily got into interviews with them. When it came time to discuss pay, I was fully flabbergasted. I've been on this sub long enough to know the labor market is full of bullshit, but man was it shocking.
The first place I interviewed at was a local liquor store, mind you, I need to be 21+ to work there, and the pay rate they offered me starting out was only $9/hr for part time. Fully shocked, I went to my next interview at a local grocery store and was told that the most they could probably pay me was 11.40/hr. Both of these pay less than any job I have ever worked. I am absolutely floored. No wonder these places are struggling for workers.
