I spend the first 4 years of my career doing unskilled work, like boring retail, packing shit away, working a register.
Life kinda sucked- didn’t really have any money so it was hard.
I took a chance and applied for a related role that levered some of my experience in the specific kind of retail I was in and thinks got a bit better, I had the same complaints as the work was the same essentially but higher regarded so it paid better and I progressed through that path for a decade.
Did the same again this year and have leveraged my experience into another role and have a reasonable surplus every month.
I know most will say that “you shouldn’t have to, life should be free” and “you can’t do that where I am” but From my experience being willing to plan next moves, not rely on any employer and do what is right for you is the only way to get ahead.
There are jobs which pay well and are good to work for, don’t waste your time by being complicit in working for those that aren’t.
