Just found out my company is paying my colleagues $4 an hour more than me for the exact same job, what do I do

Title says it. Been working with this company for two years, only people who have been at the location I work in have either been hired within the year, or the two managers that have been here 5+ years. I currently have the most experience for my position, have one of the highest performance scores- yet I’ve recently discovered that I’m being paid far less than my coworkers. I currently have the most experience for my position, have one of the highest performance scores- yet I’ve recently discovered that I’m being paid far less than my coworkers.

For my coworkers, this job is either their first job or they’ve come into the job without previous experience in the field.

As soon as I discovered this I contacted our district manager in tears (I have bad anxiety, and am not good with confrontation) to explain to her the situation. They then explained to me that wages are based on experience, which I essentially told her how could that be stating the reasons above.

They then said that I should give them time to go to HR and figure something out, and to only keep it between us two. I was not to tell anyone else.

When I was stating that this doesn’t bode well, and why should I keep working if I’m not paid fairly, they only responded asking if I want to make my current wage or $0.

Not sure how to navigate further
