My contract for employment ends in a few weeks and I was just told it won’t be renewed. I feel very lucky to have been given some notice. I can’t begin to imagine others burdened by an immediate layoff.
Still living paycheck to paycheck, I literally have no idea what I am going to do. My work was so specialized that it won’t translate anywhere else and I feel like I’m going to have to start over in a new industry.
Mortgage – utilities/food – car payment – child costs – I already live frugally as much as possible.
I was planning on staying at that job for the rest of my life. Only a few years in a “reorganization” outsourced my work. I wasn’t even asked if I wanted to transfer to another position or department.
I was given the advice a long time ago not to devote my life to a company as when you die it’s not like they will be at your funeral. I feel like that advice is only for those that have the privilege of not caring.
Duck this ducking corporate America.
