No paperwork was signed, but the POC for this job had me join a Teams call this morning, signaling my first day on the job remotely.
I asked to go to lunch, and she said that was ok. The next email I get from the lady stated that they obviously ran my background check through something called Zenefits regarding an issue from TEN years ago… ( LINK here. )
So, I told them it was a mix up, yadda yadda.
I'm currently waiting for a reply from the lady, but….
My question is, since I live in PA, and the company is in CA, are they allowed to do a background check without me knowing? Isn't that illegal? What should my next steps be?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that they NEVER mentioned anything about running a BGC on me, and they did it without me knowing.
