Just watched the Devil wears Prada

I remember everyone raving about this movie when I was a teenager but I never saw it until just now, and I hated how the entire movie justifies an abusive and controlling employer. A few things that may resonate with this subreddit: The assistant, Andy, is underpaid (dad pays her rent) and bullied by everyone in her workplace and then gets gas-lit and told that she isn't working hard enough. A few things that may resonate with this subreddit:

The assistant, Andy, is underpaid (dad pays her rent) and bullied by everyone in her workplace and then gets gas-lit and told that she isn't working hard enough.

Gets given a virtually impossible task where she is set up to fail by her employer.

Told that she must accompany the Director to Paris with threats that she will be black listed from working at any major publication if she refuses.

One other hard working employee of 18 years is promised a promotion which turns out to be a lie to which he replies with something akin to “if I pick myself up by my bootstraps and work harder maybe one she will recognise my hard work.”

Andy develops Stockholm syndrome and ends up liking her abuser and tries to protect her in the end.

But the real kicker was that this movie is marked as a comedy, and it really feels like it's trying to make light of this abusive behaviour. I didn't find any part of this movie funny; just sad.
