I was hired part time at a credit union early April. I told them at my final interview that I was looking for a second job to help cover finances because in this day and age, 29hrs of pay does not go a long way. I was straight forward with them. Let them know my availability will probably change once I find something. I was told that was fine as long as the credit union was priority and to just keep them up to date.
I found a full time job at a pill packing place that was 4 second shifts. On paper and talking to everyone, it would work. They offered to make my schedule a month out and make it set days each week to make it easier at the credit union. I let the credit union know the offer on Thursday and they flipped.
I got a rather nasty email from HR, highly implying that I was going against the rules and could not accept this job. That even though only one branch (that is an hour and a half away) is open on Saturdays, I still have to be available to cover shifts if needed. So, basically, I would have a 3hr round trip to work 4…..sounds logical.
Yesterday (Tuesday), the branch manager finally talked to me. Said that HR wanted to set up a dialog about the second job. Said I can still have the other job but it has to be on my days off. It can't be set days and oh yeah, you do have to work Saturdays on a rotating basis, which no one in the last 2 months has informed me about. Not at my interview, not at orientation, not in the 2 wks I wasted driving an hr away to the main branch to do my “training”.
I've already felt like I have been playing catch up since getting to my home branch. I learned more here my first week then I did in the 2 at the main branch. The fact that our schedules can change last minute after it has been published and no notice about it. The continued lack of communication about very important details about this job. And now the email from HR. All of it has just left a bad taste in my mouth and left me very unhappy. Really tempted to just cut my losses and find another part time to fill in the gaps.
