The secretary running a large state department is going on and on about how during Covid and working from home productivity sky rocketed. Then said last month you can only work from home two days a week and that you set them as your days permanently. If you can’t make it to the office on your office day, you are not allowed to work from home. You have to take a sick/personal day. For example let’s say Thursday and Friday are your home days. Monday is your office day but your kid gets sick and you have to stay home. Sorry you can’t work from home. Even though you’ve been successfully working from home for years. So you take a sick day and work doesn’t get done. Deadlines missed, meetings canceled etc. Needless to say suddenly the powers that be are tracking people. Suddenly you are being questioned left and right. Why are you not in your office? People are upset. The loss of flexibility is huge. People actively looking for other jobs. Secretary leaves the job since he’s tied to the governor and the other party won. But the new policy stays. Secretary can say how under his command productivity was the best, see how it dropped when he left. Secretary said no one complained to him in one of his last meetings. People were heard snorting in disbelief in the background.
