I want to explain how I see lazy managers leading to suffering for employees. To a certain point, I used to believe that if management was lazy, there would be slack, and lower level employees' lives would be easier. I see now that was a big misunderstanding.
Lazy management doesn't want to manage, and so doesn't even know their employees' performance. At the most basic, each employee is there to achieve a result for the company and to help it make money. On a moral level, I have no issue with that.
But, when management is too lazy to do their job, we get things like back to office policies, strict control over breaks, and micromanagement.
When a manager doesn't understand, or doesn't care to track performance, all they can do is make sure people are looking like they're performing their job. This promotes inefficiency and performance theater, when instead everyone could be living their life to the fullest while still making results for the company.
Sorry for my rant, let me know if any of you have had this problem with your managers.
