Not sure if this is the right place; but I’m trying to find some info to help out my grandmother.
She is 85 and works at Walmart in Virginia part time and has been there for about 5 years. A year ago she was full time but couldn’t sustain that for health reasons.
On Christmas Eve she had to call out because it was 4 degrees Fahrenheit and she couldn’t safely leave the house in that weather. They want to change her 2 days leave for missing one day (Christmas Eve), which would also put her in the danger zone for calling out too many times. She’s 85 and life takes its toll, she gets sick fairly often.
US labor protections don’t exist for the most part. Is there anything she can do? Any legal avenues? Is Walmart able to actually have this policy or is a local petty tyrant screwing her? Any advice or help would be appreciated!
