I just started working at a certain coffee place in a certain grocery store chain (not Target). After the phone screening and during the interview, I was told that my pay would be $16/hr + tips. I learned halfway through my first shift that we are actually not in fact allowed to accept tips as we are technically grocery chain employees and not coffee chain employees. It ‘wouldn’t be fair’ to the non-coffee place workers for us to receive tips, which sounds like a can of worms in itself. My interviewer denies having said such a thing but I am 95% confident they did (possibly my phone screener?) as obviously, pay is incredibly important to me and I have evidence of texting a friend about it immediately after getting out. I don’t have much qualifications other than the ones that got me this job, and I’m not sure that I want to go through the hassle of finding another after how long getting this one took. What do?
