I know a lot of people are going through this, but any advice or ideas is appreciated.
I started a new job 6 months ago. I was told it would be remote/community position. They said in the beginning their would be some in office stuff to get to know the team, but after that it would be remote.
I left a remote job of over 3 years, to try something new. I didn’t mind, since it was still remote. I was told during the interview, their would be no unnecessary office time, those days were over. I was also told that we would be reimbursed for mileage, .60 per mile, for visiting clients homes or work related events.
I accepted the position. After being hired, I was given the rules regarding mileage, which were not disclosed to me during the interview. The rules state you cannot get mileage if your distance to the clients homes is greater than the distance to the office.
I live 40 min from the office, and they schedule clients within a 10-15 min radius of where I live, so I never exceed the miles to the office. Hence, never reimbursed.
Then they sent an email yesterday stating we would be expected to be in the office twice a week, moving forward.
I looked over the contract, it doesn’t state that the job is fully remote. Just that I’ll adhere to virtual meetings and office meetings. I do have an email from my supervisor stating it is remote, aside from meetings. It states that their will be more meetings in beginning, which is no longer the case.
The contract also states that I should be reimbursed for mileage for work related travel at .60 per mile. It doesn’t mention all the caveats they have, that keep you from receiving mileage.
Do I have any rights? It’s a nonprofit in a state not so friendly towards workers. I left a remote job for this one, and can’t go back to that one with the same pay.
It’s really depressing. I was lied to about two huge things. I’ve been waiting for health insurance , which recently kicked in.
I like the job, minus this stuff. I won’t be able to quit until I get some health issues resolved.
It feels like we I have no power. That a job can do whatever they want, and we get screwed if we’re dependent on healthcare.
I know nothing can probably be done, but I needed to vent at the very least.
