Live in California, worked for a UK based company and was Terminated

Hey There, I (33M) currently live in California and was working for a UK based company for the last 7 months. Last Friday my manager and her manager setup a meeting with me to tell me that the company didn't do well last year and their plans to expand more into America was being changed so they ended up telling me that there is no more use for my role (RevOps). They mentioned that they could cut my salary in half to keep me on board, but that I probably don't want that so they are terminating me. They told me that my last day will be in 2 weeks (May 13th). I'm not sure why they would give me 2 weeks notice of being terminated rather than terminate me on the spot. I have no received in writing anything about my termination, just a verbal conversation. My 3 questions:…

Hey There,

I (33M) currently live in California and was working for a UK based company for the last 7 months.

My 3 questions:
1. Will I be able to collect unemployment in California?
2. Is the company giving me 2 week notice to make it look like I quit so they don't have to pay out unemployment?
3. Do I reach out and ask for documentation that they are terminating me?

I am trying to protect myself and was wondering how this community would handle my situation.

Thanks for reading.
