Looking for advice: Boss said I deserved a promotion, then got one for herself.

So I've worked at a company coming up on 3 years. My coworker (now manager) has for about 7 months more than I have. In the time that I have been here she has gotten promoted twice. First time to being a “senior” managing me and now recently promoted to officially a “manager” doing the same job. I am the only person she manages and we have one manager above us. I don't feel like she has worked particularly more or harder than I have. When I started we had the same title. We have similar skill sets, some of mine are more indepth than hers vice versa. She was put into a manager role though and manages projects since the first promotion. I made it clear at the beginning of 2022 I don't see a growth path for myself at the company and that I feel that I'm not…

I made it clear at the beginning of 2022 I don't see a growth path for myself at the company and that I feel that I'm not learning or using the skills I have to offer. I hoped this would push them to give me more lead roles and opportunities, but that happened one time earlier in the year and have had nothing since.

Fast forward to now, “promotion season” came and went and she got promoted for the second time after saying she was pushing for me to get a promotion. I told her again before the news dropped that I wanted to talk about opportunities and more ways I could lead projects. I have a meeting coming up with her and our overhead boss and am not sure what to say.

The vibe that I'm getting now though is that I need to work more and “really prove” that I deserve that promotion next season (in 6 months). So it sounded like I deserved it, but because it couldn't be done since she got one, now I have to wait. Makes me wish I hadn't said anything since I basically just signed myself up for more work with no benefit.

I know that getting a promotion at this point would just mean more pay and a title change, but no real change in what I do. At the end of the day, I still have two managers and no say. I'm very much considering leaving regardless. I guess I just had false hope they cared more about me staying since I do so much and am always the person people go to for a quick fix. I'm the “wizard” the “speedy gonzales” and the “unicorn” all in one but from our last meeting, my manager didn't seem to be worried about me leaving if I didn't want to wait.

So what do you suggest I say/talk about at the next group meeting? I'm not ready to quit at least for another 2 months, but I'm pretty frustrated by the whole situation and don't know what to say at this next meeting other than to tell them to go fuck themselves.
