After 5 Years in sales, as a Salesperson I got promoted to Sales Manager and actually enjoyed it for a while. It got worse in worse with departments changing rules and blaming us for not knowing rules they would randomly make, such as I had to start doing HR job for pay role, we needed to do 2 points in the back on leases or finance wouldn't do the deal so we would loose business to other local dealers. turn rate of upstairs was insane to the point every single deal plates were expiring to a point my partner just quit and went to another dealer and left me solo for about 3 months. My first year at the desk I didn't even break 100k after months of 300k average F/B gross which I would even make more on the sales floor. I let it happen because I wanted the experience on my record, but after doing it solo for months I requested to see the owner to talk for a better pay plan ( we didn't have a GM at the time of) 2 months of requesting, the used car manager asked me to step down to sales and help for a month or 2 until we hire new guys. Let him know I wasn't interested but I will do it because I needed a job and money. We hire a new GM, he hires 1 of his friends to work up at the desk (actually had to train them too) and after 2 months I asked him what is going on? He told me finally that I will not be going back up at the desk. I was beyond heated, kept my cool and told him all I have done and he didn't care. He said he hired another friend and said to my face with less experience but I can pay him less (both of them up at the desk are bf's and just bs all day not handing out leads) I think I am just done in this business. I don't want to waste another 6 years of my life just to find another job again. I came from a Farm life hoping to find a job to put in my time and retire, it seems in this business experience, time and devotion means nothing. I don't think I want to do this again I have heard most dealers are like this, so looking to see what have other people gone to for jobs? My buddy said solar sales he has been killing it but has to drive all over the place. I have experience, I am in NJ and I am 28 Years old just kinda freaking out with what I am doing.
