Lost my remote job in a mass layoff, now I have to go back to spending 3 hours on the overcrowded highway each day just to make phone calls for 8 hours, because apparently that can’t be done from home and the cities are the only places where wages are high enough for me to live on

Where I live, the wages are so low, that even after gas expenses, I’d still be making significantly more in the cities. Local wages are barely catching up with inflation. The state is refusing me unemployment benefits (thanks Florida), barely anybody is responding to my job applications, and most of the “remote” jobs I can find still require applicants to live in a specific region for in-office training. My prior college education is yet again proving useless and I now have no health insurance. I’m gonna miss working in my pajamas with my cats sleeping on my desk, cooking on my lunch breaks, and watching TV all day as I work. That was the life.
