Lying about how much you make to a potential new employer.

So far I’ve done this twice. In the past year I’ve increased my hourly wage by about 4 dollars. We all know job hopping is the only way. I don’t necessarily want to leave my current job, it’s great, but I do want to leverage a new offer for more money. Im wondering if anyone has come across a potential new employer looking for proof of current pay, and on the side of my current employer I’m expecting they’d want to see proof of a new, higher offer.
