I was just informed that I will be laid off effective May 26. While I would like to say it was a pleasure to work with the company, simply, I cannot. VOA LA has probably the worst HR of any company I have worked at. Which is saying something considering I have worked for retail, movie theaters, and even a University. I have worked on site at an emergency shelter for over a year now with the company, and it has been stressful at times, and emotionally breaking at others. When I first arrived here they told me over and over again that they would work to find me a new site to work at, and despite the fact that nobody in my programs management can understand why I am being laid off, despite almost every location needing a case manager, I will no longer work for VOA LA because the HR team said so. I have reached out to them to learn more, but they have not reached back. My management does not know the reason I have been laid off. I asked if there was anything specific I was doing and they informed me that there was none. I have always listened to them and resolved any issues that arise, and they even mentioned as much, but despite that with no justification they have decided to tell management to give me the news so that their HR team does not have to. This comes after months of HR refusing to work with me on trying to find other locations in VOA LA I could apply for (something HR and Management encouraged me to do). I am currently unable to apply to positions as VOA LA due to “technical problems” with their website for the past two months that still remains unresolved. I will be looking for employment elsewhere in the meantime.
