Today at work my day started with a dude asking where the bathroom was, coming back to the area I was working in, waited until I was ringing up a female customer to come up and ask some pretty sexual questions and asking if employees got any “special” bonuses for working there.
We're not anywhere close to a sex shop and even my work was one thats still not cool.
I had to just ring up my customer, say no to all his questions and ignore him, thankfully he walked off when he realized I wasn't going awknowledge him anymore.
I called out to the managers a discription of the guy, what he did, what he said, and what direction of the store he went to next. It took over 5 minutes for a manager to come over, and basically just asked me what the dude said, what he looked like, and then told me he didn't see him walking over, he'd keep a eye out, and to radio if I saw the guy again, left and then denied me a back up for a hour I'd be left on my own because we couldn't spare another person.
Now I couldn't do or say anything about this guy besides radio a manager, I can't even tell someone to leave before I call a manager because its considered antagonizing and people have gotten fired for being “too agressive” and the one manager I got ahold of didn't do anything.
All the good managers that support employees and actually care about the staff and customers have either transfered out to other locations or got fired for being too agressive and all we have left are managers who only care about numbers or covering their ass if something happens.
I don't know if I consider myself as being sexually harrassed but I do consider myself as being used in the sexual harassment of another customer.
I'm sick and tired of all the shit that goes down, but I stayed until all the major breaks were covered because I didn't want to screw over the guy I was working with since its a busy season.
Once that was done I finally got ahold of another manager who actually seemed to care about what happened, he checked the cameras, got a picture of the dude, had me write down everything that happened and that was said, but ruined it by calling an informal team lead to get someone to replace me for the rest of my shift and basically said I was leaving because I got sexually harrassed.
What the absolute fuck, my safety has been ignored by people before, switching to day shift was supposed to help that, now I definately feel like my safety was ignored after a guy almost a foot taller than me and easily 100+ pounds heavier than I was used me to sexually harass someone else, I was angry and embarrassed, and concerned the guy would come back pissed because I know managers would say he wasn't allowed back because a employee reported him for sexual harrassment. I may be on the shorter side but I'm not a small person but that dude was fucking huge, and then a manager basically tells someone I consider a supervisor that I'm leaving because I got sexually harrassed and it feels like I got humilated for wanting to leave, my coworker didn't need to know that, the manager just could have said I was going home and someone else needed to cover for me.
The entire way this got handled was just unacceptable.
