I work in healthcare (in the UK) and recently had to have my hours adjusted due to disability. I disclosed to my manager that I've been struggling with my disability and asked for my hours to be changed to help accomodate me and keep me in work full time. My department is split into two sections and neither section really works with each other.
When I asked for the adjustment, my manager told me “Sharon has x disability/medical condition too and has never asked for an adjustment because of it. So why should I give it to you?” The disability I'm referring to is physical and causes significant pain, but invisible so there is a lot of discrimination unfortunately. Sharon works in my department but in the other section so I don't work with her. We are in a similar role but she is more senior.
I did eventually get my hours adjusted but had to get my union and senior management involved. I had totally forgotten that my manager had disclosed another person's medical info to me by this point. Because I had to put up such a fight to get my hours adjusted, and it really should have been a straight forward thing as I had the necessary medical evidence. My manager was awful and bullied/harrassed me over the course of a year throughout this process of getting senior management to approve an adjustment, so I put in a complaint with HR detailing their mistreatment. It is currently being “investigated.”
My question is, how do I proceed regarding the disclosure of my coworker's medical info? I did not report it to HR at the time (over a year ago) because it honestly had not occured to me that I should. I chatted with a friend and she thinks I should report it to HR seeing as they are already investigating said manager on my behalf. Another thinks I should tell Sharon and let her deal with it. However I don't want to make her uncomfortable. Any advice?
Sharon is a fake name obviously.
