Manager is asking what my “family emergency” is

To be honest I’ve just been completely swamped with school work. I really need a day to catch up. I will say I have bailed on work (with ample notice) a couple of times recently because I was put on the Rota to work New Year’s Day/Eve. To be honest I’ve just been completely swamped with school work. I really need a day to catch up. I will say I have bailed on work (with ample notice) a couple of times recently because I was put on the Rota to work New Year’s Day/Eve. But I’ve covered SO MANY shifts for my company, literally I cover 70-80% of shifts that no one else will cover.

Yesterday I messaged my manager to tell her that a family emergency came up and I can’t work on Sunday. She messaged me back asking what the emergency is. I can’t really use any hospitalisation excuse because it’s still quite far in the future (4 days from now). What can I say? I understand that I’m not actually obliged to tell her anything but I have crippling anxiety and I know that this will make the work environment uncomfortable for me the next time I go in. At the same time, “I’d rather not disclose” might also make it tense. Any advice?
