Context: I work as a behavioral therapist, and the region I work in is massively short staffed; we often have to send people from one center to another just to cover for short staffing.
My manager asked me today if I could help another clinic out that would be over an hour drive away vs my 20 min drive to my actual clinic I work at. She also asked me 10 min before I was scheduled to start my actual shift for the day. I told her no because I actually had errands to take care of after work and the commute to the other clinic would interfere with my plans. My schedule then changed from kids I normally work with on my team to being given a kid I rarely work with, who has the worst behavioral issues, who just had a significant change in medication which affected their behavior, and whose parents are notoriously late to pick up their kid. I’m sick of my supervisors being petty with the schedule at the expense of these children because I can’t provide the highest quality therapy for a kid I rarely work with. I really do my best to have a good attitude and not be paranoid but it’s not a coincidence I get scheduled with one of the hardest kids when plenty of his usual therapists were available to take them for a session.
