I work front desk at a popular massage place that sells a lot of skin care products. Today, my manager informed us FDAs that starting now, each time we come in we need to pick a product, tell her what that product is, and try to sell it to each client daily. I, as well as all of my other coworkers, have never tried any of the skin care products (they’re entirely out of my budget) and she knows this. I brought this up to her and she said “that’s fine, you just have to pretend that you use it”.
She, as well as my other manager, except us to lie to clients and push products telling them it’s our favorite and we use it all the time. I feel incredibly uncomfortable with this and many aspects of this job make me feel like I am crossing my own moral and ethical boundaries (have been applying for different jobs for ~1 month with nothing).
When I told them that it doesn’t sit right to me to tell people how much I love a product without even trying it, they tell me not to think of it like that. Is this normal? They keep pushing it and it feels so evil. It is a minimum wage job and we hardly make commission (which is only if we sell memberships ($20 MAX) – if we sell ~$500 or more worth of product in a quarter, we MAYBE get a free product).
Idk man it’s just fucked up but I don’t want to refuse to do it if it’s a reasonable ask for an FDA. Anyone have a similar experience?
