Mandatory Work On Mothers Day

I work in retail management and am no stranger to working on holidays. My store manager is a mom and has the day off and I’m the manager working that day since I live pretty far from home and planned to visit back home on my next day off. Next week the companies CEO will be visiting the district so the entire district is rushing to get stores looking perfect. Sounds about right for a visit as big as this. Like I’ve said, I’m not new to this type of expectations but we already get limited time off to have a life outside of work with the little pay we get.

I’m only an hour and a half from home but I haven’t seen my Mom since Christmas Eve. I feel horrible for my store manager as she is a single mom and has a kid that has events that have been planned months in advance and is expected to ditch them all for this visit.
