This local entrepreneur built and sold his startup for over $2B in about five years. That’s like at least a $200M payout for five years of “work.”
I admired this local entrepreneur. The newspapers said he used to be a restaurant manager, before deciding to do his startup.
Then I learn that his dad was an early executive at Microsoft who retired decades ago. The family has lived off that fortune ever since.
And he wasn’t a restaurant manager. He was a restaurant investor. He didn’t even have a real job; he just lived off his trust fund. In fact, the dad bragged about how Bill Gates and Steve Jobs used to push his stroller.
And the entrepreneur didn’t have to go beg investors for money. He just asked his family and his dad’s friends for $5M, which they granted.
