Antiwork

A new guy at my work has invited his friend over to work with us, to do a shift that doesn’t exist.

This is more of I have been at my job for nearly a year and it is easy if boring. We had a new starter (A) come to work with us. I like A (he is always on time and good company), even though he is doing a shift I’d like to do (4 on and 4 off, whereas I do six on and three off). Sounds good? Well, A gets B to leave his current job (a hard but well paid job) and to come work with us. Very quickly, I realise that none of my shifts match up with B which means that B will only be able to to work for two days each week not four (bear in mind that B has a family and has left a well paid job).

Nothing changes for A and myself. I’m unable to drop the hours I want but I don’t lose out. B meanwhile is soon going to realise that he probably won’t now be able to provide for his family and will have to beg for his old job (which he hated) back.

I’d be raging in B’s position.
