So, my best friend has a typical crappy Wearhouse job. He has degrees in game design and CAD. He's been applying to every software game design job there is, on top of that several jobs that require CAD. (Many industries use CAD.)
So he gets a call back from X company, come in for an interview. (Finally, a well-paying job that my degrees come into play.)
He gets a haircut/shave, buys new shoes and a really nice suit.
Nails the first interview. Ok they will call him in three to four weeks for the 2nd round of the interview.
2nd Interview comes around, he's fresh cut/shaved, nice shoes and suit. They have him perform some strange test that has him multi-tasking three or four tasks at once. They said he did great. We'll call you for a final interview in two to three weeks.
Three weeks goes by AND, BOOM!
Via Email, thank you for your consideration, after blah blah, we've decided to move in a different direction. Same old cut and dry bullshit, waste of time crap.
Naturally, he's bummed out, just feeling like shit.
I try to cheer him up, let's go out, let's play some games, whatever you want to do bro.
He really doesn't want to do anything, I understand.
So, I put a hypothetical up, maybe I can change his view a bit and it won't suck as much.
Here's my hypothetical/moral question.
Say you are offered your dream job. You are told that all you have to do it show up and it's yours.
Next morning you wake up early, very early and cook breakfast, clean up, the works. YOU ARE READY!
Right when you're about to head out, you get a phone call.
It's your best friend's wife/husband, they tell you your best friend has been in a serious accident.
The doctor says your best friend is lucky to live out the day.
The wife/husband says that this will be the last time you will get to see them.
What do you do, and would your actions have any impact on you in the future? (I'd love to hear a few people answer this, no judgement from me, I don't agree with all opinions, but I will respect them.)
My best friend said f#ck all of that, friends for life.
I like to think it changed his perspective a bit and lessened how shitty he was feeling.
