My boomer mother tells me to move to a LCOL area and get a job there to pay 500 in rent.

She doesn’t want to hear how that is not possible. Everywhere is having rising rents and no rising pay. There is no rent protection when the lease comes up with hundreds to thousands more. She says, “You are too negative. How would you know if you can’t afford the rent somewhere else?” Um…I can start searching from home on the computer? “How do you know your minimum wage jobs won’t pay more (less) there? How do you know you can’t survive with the pay they might offer?” She avoids the news when it isn’t the View. She says I don’t know what I am talking about. I also don’t own a car or know how to drive. “Move, if you are not finding work here.” Sure, I will move to where there are less jobs, longer commutes, lesser resources for an autistic individual, no public transportation, and no female rights.…

You can get a two bedroom apartment for 400-500 a month somewhere else rather than pay more here.”
