I worked Saturday and came in early for a girl who was sick and needed to leave. We dont work fast food, but we do have fresh foods.
I am now sicker than I've been in a good few years. (Took a covid test, came back negative) It seems I have a nasty bout of the flu.
Today at 9am (already well outside of my normal availability) I am supposed to go to work and sit for a 3 hour movie with most of my coworkers, who will then all be going to a work Xmas party. I have asked to reschedule my viewing of the video as I am super sick. My boss responded with 'bring in a sick note'.
Ive only been there two months but this is my first time being sick or needing to call in.
I live in michigan and in 2018 a law was enacted that, among many other things, made it illegal? for an employer to request a sick note for every sick day, they would need to wait until 3 consecutive days had passed in order to request a doctors note. This law also stated that the employer shall compensate the employee for any out of pocket costs they accrue as the request to see a doctor was from the employer, I assume, and I suppose the michigan natives making this law have seen the ridiculous amount of people serving ther burgers with a side of snot.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to go over her head and ask my boss if this is his stance as well. And I have some screen shots of the law.
I like this job… but I'm so fucking tired of being treated like shit for being a customer service employee. I dont deserve it. Im too fucking old for this. I spent literally 5-6 months consistently searching for ANY job that wasn't fast food. That was my only requirement because I have put my time into fast food already. Done my time in that prison. I have been donating plasma and selling art to make money in the meantime.
I was so happy to be at this job and this tiny little thing has ruined it completely. How could they not know about this law? Its tied in with mandatory paid sick leave which was EXPLAINED to me upon being hired so their company had already made the changes due to the law! Urgh.
