My boss is trying to cover up my coworker’s quitting.

So my coworker has been with our company for 5 years. She was the operational manager and pretty much took care of everything in terms of scheduling, paying out clients, organizing our events, and pretty much everything else. She didn’t give me much detail, but she put in her 2 weeks notice after some “uncomfortable” encounter with the owner, who was close with both her and her family for years. She told me that when she sent her notice that he told her not to bother showing up. Following that, he posted a new schedule with her shifts removed (name is still on it, but her shifts aren’t). This was the first red flag since she was the one that would ALWAYS do the schedule. The second red flag was when another coworker mentioned that the owner had said the manager had a cold and that’s why she wasn’t working.…

She told me that when she sent her notice that he told her not to bother showing up. Following that, he posted a new schedule with her shifts removed (name is still on it, but her shifts aren’t). This was the first red flag since she was the one that would ALWAYS do the schedule.

The second red flag was when another coworker mentioned that the owner had said the manager had a cold and that’s why she wasn’t working.

The third red flag was that he removed a bunch of old employees from our group chat, people he was still amicable with, but NOT the manager that put in her notice. Then he made a NEW group chat and just didn’t add her to it. I assume he did this so no one would ask questions like “Why did you remove X from the group chat if she just has a cold?”

This was all last week, and I anticipate that my boss is going to lie and say she quit on us without warning. I’m just kinda torn because she told me this in confidence, but I won’t tolerate my boss lying and covering shit up like this. I love my job, but I’m starting to feel like my morals are more important.

I know that none of this is illegal, but it certainly is EXTREMELY shady and makes me question the person I work for. Any advice?
