As many different places as I've worked I was under the impression that if there isn't anyone to cover a call off then its the managers job to cover a shift or figure something out. My current boss is the complete opposite and will hound every reliable employee that shows up for their shifts on time and doesn't call off. When nobody answers her texts and hundreds of calls and off chance she has to go in she tells regular customers how everyone on the roster is going to “pay for it”. I'll give a more recent example: yesterday I was scheduled to work my normal 2-10pm shift….overnight called off and my boss called and asked how long I can stay…..I straight up told her if I have to come back in at 2 the next day the latest I can stay is till 1 or 2 am and cover at least part of the shift. I ended up getting fucked and had to stay till 730 am this morning because she couldn't be bothered to come in any earlier than her scheduled time to let me go home. Flash forward a few hours later after I'm getting ready to go to sleep, I get a text from her asking if I can cover the entire overnight shift again tonight all the while she's talking about the dude who called off like he's a piece of shit and how DARE he get sick. I didn't answer or respond figuring fuck it im just an employee not my problem. But she (my boss) calls off every monday because she's too hungover from partying every weekend. Another 20 mins goes by and I get blown up with this lengthy text pretty much saying “I heard you were upset last night. Is there Any reason for that? Please let me know regardless if you can cover.”
Its kind of anxiety inducing in a way because a few times before when this has happened she has taken it upon herself to come to my apartment building and bang on my door when I don't answer her multiple texts and calls to try and get me to come in and pull doubles or work on my day off when I have plans. So its like if I don't answer is she going to come pound on my door? Am I going to have to sit here in silence and pretend I'm not home? For whatever reason nobody else at my work sees an issue with this and they don't understand why I'm pissed off and looking for another job.
