My boss might get my Ukrainian friend deported.

I have a friend at work, I’ll call him O. O was born and raised in Ukraine, and moved here to Canada on work visa and got a job as an engineer. During O’s contract, the war started, and with his contract finished, he had to get a job where I work (a grocery store) so he would not get deported back to Ukraine. He does his job well, but struggles a bit with English. During a briefing from my boss, I was told to keep an eye on O. Manager told me they might fire him because he doesn’t speak English very well. He speaks English fine, but just has a very strong accent, in conversation, he may miss a few words, but you can understand him fine if you focus. TL:DR boss might get my friend deported back to a war zone because he struggles to understand his accent.

What can I do to help him?
