My boss has a quarterly meeting with each of us to discuss our performance and our goals going forward. I've been in my role for 6 months, which isn't super long, but i have been doing very well so I was hoping to go from level 2 to a level 3, with the only difference being the title and pay (my responsibilities would stay the same, my boss said).
Today, I had that meeting. She said I was doing wonderfully, and in the part about what could go better, she said “nothing” and praised the quality of work I've done so far. She then said level 3 is in my future, but they don't do promotions til around your 1 year mark.
To me, this feels frustrating. If my work is spot on with its quality speaking for itself, the only thing holding me back is… time? Shouldn't my skills and results be enough to validate a level increase? I failed to push too hard with her on this since I was nervous, but I feel like my talent and work ethic aren't being appreciated.
Do you think it'd be worth sticking it out for another 6 mo for resume reasons even though my pay rate isn't where I'd like it to be? Maybe I should have another discussion about it with her to see why time matters so much if my work quality is level 3 ready? Or perhaps it's time to find a new job?
