My boss said we are not allowed to talk about our wages on the floor, is that allowed?

some back story: I found out that the tips are not split evenly among different staff (barista, kitchen, bartender). This was not what was communicated with us when we were all hired. Upon discussion off the floor, I realized there was a massive discrepancy between a coworkers and my tips so I brought it up to my superiors. They explained that tips were done and split based off of specific sales so coffee sales, bar sales, etc which was not what was originally communicated. They said there was nothing they could do to change it. At work today, I decided to tell some of my coworkers how tips were really done. One of my coworkers told my boss what we were discussing.
