I was told to post this here.
I am a software developer currently employed at a tech company, recently I got into a huge debt that I have to pay off, after crushing numbers multiple times, I came to the conclusion that my current income won't cover my debt, no matter how much I save up, so I requested a meeting asking for a raise, where, of course, i was shut down immediately.
So before I jumped to selling a kidney, I have put myself out there to do some freelance and contracting work, outside working hours.
I was able to accumulate a good chunk of customers requesting to build their apps, after some filtration, I decided to take on 3 of the requests, all within a tight timeframe, which is not pleasant, but doable.
My company became aware of this (I still don't know how), and they scheduled a meeting with me where i was handed a warning, asking me to stop the freelance work, unless i wanted to be terminated.
I'm not even sure if that's even legal or not, since all of the contract work is being done outside working hours, and it hasn't had any effect on my performance.
I hate this system so much, I hate that I don't have any time for friends and family, I have quit so many hobbies and activities, all because I don't have time for it anymore, and yet I still am in debt, which I cannot even pay off, because my company is actively blocking every single way out for me.
