I work for a large tech company for the past 6 years and in the last 5 months my Director/Manager have not been to fond of me.
In short, I have done a lot for this company, and I was one of those employee's who went above and beyond for my team. Lately, the past few months I have adopted the technique of “doing the bare minimum'. However, I still do my job…But doing the bare minimum has definitely made me a target.
Last month, I was told I was not completing my basic duties by my manager. I explained I was and even showed proof. This was not sufficient enough in my managements eyes. I was put on a PIP and my manager said if I could not meet these criteria's I may be terminated. I called their bluff because from my all my experience with this company I've never actually heard of anyone getting fired, ever. No matter how bad the employee. So after a month, I completed the 'PIP' and they gave me less workload, less responsibilities.
Now last week, my manager presented me with a 'opportunity' to go to another team within the company. I declined and said I am happy where I am now. She then explained that she felt I was not the same worker I was 5 years ago and she think I'd be better going to a new team if I am not happy on this team. Of course, I said that is not true. But between us, I hate this team and company but I need this job.
There is a bit more to this, but my question is, why won't they just fire me at this point?
