So I put in my 2 weeks today + a little more and said my last day would be on Jan.1. My boss was happy for me and all is well.
About 20 minutes later she said her bosses boss said I'm in a contract I can't leave. I said “no I'm not, nothing I signed said I can't leave and if I'm in a contract what's my buy out I'll do it.” And they said there's “no financial penalty of any kind” for leaving early, but they're threatening to send my new employer a letter saying I'm in a contract unless I give them another month.
I said that's not possible and I already pushed my start date with the new job so I can finish out the Holidays here. They said “well really you're supposed to tell us 6th months out of you don't intend to stay”.
Anyway…I told them to do what they had to, but my last day is final. I emailed my new boss and he just said “something similar happened to me when I left XX don't worry about it.”
I'm really upset and hurt. I had nothing but good things to say about the company before this. I'd have quit on the spot but I can't afford to.
