I’ve been at my new job for 7 months now. Upon my hiring I was told I would get a performance review at 90 days and would discuss a higher salary.
My coworker got hired approximately 1.5 months after I joined and we have worked together prior to this job. She is amazing and I was so glad she came on board. She disclosed to me she took a 10k lower salary then I did.
Last month one of the team members left so we are down to 3 of us managing high end custom homes (2 million +). My work load has doubled and we are all collectively drowning. I spoke to my manager about a pay raise due to the additional work and she said she would speak to the boss.
Yesterday I walked in on my coworker and boss discussing her getting a pay raise, great! I’m very happy for her. He has not said anything to me. I bring this up to my direct manager and asked what was going on, am I getting a raise? She goes on this long rant about how boss can only give one of us a raise and since coworker was underpaid she is getting the raise and she took “one for the team” by giving her the raise, mind you- my direct boss also disclosed she received a raise last month.
I’m devastated. My workload has doubled, I’ve been here longer and my performance review had zero issues. I’m not sure how to proceed and how to talk about this issue without being emotional.
