I work remotely for a dealership as a closer. I won't get into specifications as I still work there, but honestly I'm pretty much done at this point. I know what my employer is doing is illegal, but I really don't know what my options are. The offices are located in Canada and I work from the US. When I was hired, I was promised to be paid half of my salary for “training” and the full amount once training was over in one month. I'm extremely frustrated because this was never in writing to my knowledge, and my boss really is a disgusting individual. I've been stuck at that “training” stage for 3+ months now and I brought up to my boss if I was going to be paid my full salary now, and he told me something along the lines of “have you been closing deals?”
I do a lot more than just close deals. I handle the logistics of his business, I handle all inbound/outbound calls, I follow up with our clients on a daily basis, on top of so many other tasks required of me. I work 50 hours a week. I cant even share how much I get paid because its literally less than what someone working at McDonald's would make, and I work in a high end high ticket sales position. Yes, I haven't had any deals closed yet, but the clients I have followed up with have led to multiple big ticket sales. It is a really small office that I work for, only a handful of employees honestly but I really feel not only used but feel like my employer has 0 respect for me and just walks all over me, even though he makes an insane amount of money. I have looked up wage theft and I really just don't know what I can do in this case. I don't even want my unpaid wages paid.
Honestly I just want his business shut down and to expose him in our industry as its very tight knit and all the dealers know each other. Absolutely no one should do business with someone who cannot even pay his employers. For this month I had to remind my boss for my payment on the first, and he didn't even reply to my inquiry until the 5th. 5 days. Every single month, I have to remind him and ASK to be paid. Working 50 hours a week. I am beyond furious and again I just want to know what I can do so he can face the reality and consequences of his disgusting actions. He's playing with peoples lively hoods. This shit is not a joke and its debilitating. Please, if any of you can help me I would appreciate it so much. Thank you.
