This is going back around 10 years.
I was working in a corporate office in a management role, my entire team was advised there will be some merging of roles and that if we wanted to keep our jobs we must reapply as our current role wasn't going to be there. They advised that interviews for the new role was going to be in two weeks time and even though we are certain to get the new role with a 5k increase we should still prepare for it.
Everyone in the team minus myself had applied for the new role, they all got the new job and I kept turning up sitting at my desk and when approached to do a certain task i wasn't originally signed up to do i would respond with, that isn't my role and if you want me to take on this new role I'm happy to negotiate or you can make me redundant. (In Australia, I couldn't be fired for one of those made up reasons i read about here)
As i was in management i was aware that there was a policy that they would not be looking to make people redundant so for around a year I would do minimal work, I emailed HR and advised them to ask upper management to stop asking me to do tasks that wasn't in my initial contract.
Everyone else in the team was working so hard, the moral was down. I did feel bad for not helping out but at the same time i did warn them all of why they were doing what they were doing and i was angling to be made reduntant in which i eventially was.
