I started work last Sunday. It's my first job. It's a smoke shop but there's also magazines, candy, and even lottery tickets. I'm not a smoker so I was clueless the first day, but on the third one I had learnt many brands and where each one is placed, so I can hand it to the customers. I've been having fun and learning a lot.
The thing is, my boss is known as a bad person with his workers. It's a small town and everyone thinks the same. Many people have quit. I thought I could handle it but I'm already pissed off. I'm new to lottery stuff and haven't been teached, so I've had some mistakes when attending costumers regarding it. He complained. He says I should search information on the internet of every product there is, including how the lottery works, in my free time. He's supposed to train me, but seems like he isn't bothered.
Well, on the sixth day he told me my learning period had ended and I had to know everything by then. He hasn't even been in the shop for 2 whole days so he hasn't taught me almost anything by himself.
He also complained I leave in time. He said it's not good.
And finally, the thing that bothers me the most is that he doesnt talk respectfully. He's told me to “fill the f***ing fridge” instead of asking nicely, things like that.
I've tried to be nice and learn as much as I can by myself by practicing and I've been doing mostly really good, attending customers very kindly, cleaning, putting products where it is needed, memorizing where each one is… I'm honestly proud of myself but the boss really is mining my confidence.
People from the town have told me that they've seen my coworker crying after work. I've cried after work too from my boss' treatment and also tried not to in front of him. I try to be tough but it's hard.
Luckily I only work 4h a day. I earn 600€/month (652$~), nothing too special for me to worry about staying. I'm happy with the job, the only thing is the boss is terrible. If I get tired I will quit.
I also have to add I love most customers. They are patient, kind and cheer me up. Locals are familiar and tourists are fun!
