My experience working for a company whose only goal is the extraction of wealth from the elderly.

About 7 month ago I made the jump from restaurant kitchens to a healthcare kitchen. This nursing home is a private home. They do not accept Medicare/Medicaid. It costs roughly $5000 a month for these people to live there. This company gives them nothing for their money. They run it so terribly that turnover rate is ridiculously high. Working in the dietary department nobody I started with is left. There's been 5 head chefs in the past 3 years. The boss I have now is the definition of a boomer. He doesn't want to work. He's let these people go without eggs, bread, yogurt, fresh fruit, canned fruit and ice cream for weeks at a time. We all know our own grocery shopping has increased over the past year with inflation. Our budget in this private home is still 2 years behind inflation. His solution is to feed them as little as possible. There's so many problems in every department of this facility. Not enough caretakers, people have wandered off and gotten lost. Average caretaker pay, $16 an hour. No maintenance budget, nothing can be fixed with the right parts needed. One maintenance employee pay, $17 an hour. Head housekeeper just quit. Pay rate $12 an hour. I love what I'm doing in feeding these residents, they're wonderful people but I feel like I'm working for Satan.
