This was over a year ago, so I feel fine posting
I (19m) worked at a fast food place (known for broiling their burgers), and it was awful when I started. Everything was fine. We were given a type of debit card rather than asking for bank info or giving checks. This made it nearly impossible to truly calculate what you were actually being paid. We didn't have a gm so we were having a dm handle everything that lasted a month, after which we got a gm and the issues started they hired a manager who would sit an do nothing but take orders, generally we were told we'd needed to switch sections at least every other day, they didn't, they enjoyed complaining and putting all their mistakes on others which lead to our 2nd and better manager quitting, the annoying manager quit soon after not being able to handle it, the gm never put in my 30 day pay raise and said that wasn't a thing, the gm was never on location ever and when he was (litterally 5 times all I worked there) he wouldn't do anything and was confused to high hell, he promised me he gave me a $1 pay raise so id be making $11 a hour, but something didn't add up and i asked to see my pay multiple times on screen but he never did. He also would not stop hiring very young teens who couldn't do anything, and that would quit very quickly. He was hired at another fast food place and quit. our 3rd manager handled the gms job until we got a replacement, at that point I was doing all the work, I was prepping ingredients, using the broiler (wasn't supposed till I was 18), I was responsible for frying everything (another thing I wasn't supposed to do), I was bagging orders and I was handling money, obviously this wasn't usually all at once but sometimes I was, there was only ever 3-5 people on staff during the days I worked for 5-10 at 10 most of the staff would leave and I and if I was incredibly lucky 1 other employee would be on shift till close plus the manager so 2 people handling fryers, burgers, orders and money, at which point I was responsible for most of the cleaning duties, which included mopping taking care of trash, cleaning dine in, cleaning all work stations and dishes, dishes was especially bad because morning crew didn't wash their dishes, so I had a mountain of dishes every night cause no one on staff would them, fast food dishwater is part water and part bleach, so every week I'd have severe chemical burns and dried out skin on my hands and it would go away over the weekend only to come back. The two things i didn't do were filter grease and clean and take apart the broiler. our new gm was really hands-on to the point it was overbearing. The little piece I had, music, was taken away. He then informed me how much I was making I WAS MAKING $10 A FUCKIN HOUR!! I was doing the work of over 4 people, working from 5 to often times 1 am all while going to highschool on top of it. He said he would fix my pay to get this $11.50 an hour, not enough, but fine, he said he'd give me a raise soon and make me a manager. He then hired a man in his 60s. This guy acts like he knows everything. Meanwhile, because he's overweight, he does almost no cleaning or making food. HE GETS MADE A MANAGER LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER BING HIGHERED. The gm says it's because he can take orders from customers, and I can't. He said once I'm trained, I will be promoted, and he then says he found paperwork saying I'd didn't need to be 18 to clean and take apart the broiler, this was suspicious as hell because even the gm who was confused Said I couldn't, every manager said I couldn't. But the managers just rolled with it because it meant less for them to do, I often was the only person who was closing. All they did was take inventory, make the schedule, and count money. After a month the gm quits! Another guy is hired, and he's never around, AND he's even more anal than the last guy the first week of him working. He quits I quit the night to hear this cause I can't deal with the massive workload, school, the shit pay, and constant new managers, I clean the place and leave
I was 17, and I worked 9 months. For 8 of those months, I made $10 a hour, I took 2 sick days. I had stress nightmares about work, and my grades tanked during that period of my life, and I didn't have anything to show for it.
I hate work, I hate capitalism, and I want America to burn
