My former boss just advised me to Work To Rule

I have a good relationship with my former boss. She left my company earlier this year, but we still talk frequently and I occasionally do some freelance work for her. The other day I alerted her that, due to some anticipated changes happening in my company, I might not be able to do as much freelancing in the coming months. This is what she told me: “You're salaried, which means that any extra work you do for that company won't benefit you financially. You charge me by the hour, so any extra time you give me will be compensated fairly. Just keep your head down, work your 40 hours, and don't offer to do any more than that. Unless they're going to give you a title change and a significant raise, they don't deserve anything more from you.” I was astonished, this woman is the most career-minded person I know…

I was astonished, this woman is the most career-minded person I know and is a VP at her new company. I would never have expected her to be the kind of person to recommend “Quiet Quitting” but I guess even she is disillusioned with modern work culture.
