So I just left a friends house and we got into a debate… Two of my other friends were standing right next to us and nodding in agreement with him when he said only 40 hours?! I shouldn’t be paying you 20 something dollars an hour if you’re only working 40 hours
He talks about how he works 80+ hours a week and his wife works the same and one of my friends, who is my ex-boyfriend, is salaried and said you’re paid for 40 but expected for at least 50, and thinks this is normal and okay. My other friend works almost 60 hours between his one main job and one restaurant job on Saturdays and was literally in agreement with them when he actually makes half of what either of them make and works more hours than my ex-boyfriend… I really just don’t understand this mentality. I figured this was the correct place to vent about this.
My friend who owns the business was saying minimum wage was meant for high school kids or college kids, so I changed my wording to living wage, and he still was like I would have to raise my prices and I was like so then raise your prices, but if you can’t afford to keep your business open and pay your full-time employees a living wage, then you have no right to be a functional business. He’s not a CEO or anything like that, I don’t wanna doxx myself so I’m not gonna go into more detail, but I mentioned CEO type places and was like why do they make hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars a year when the actual people making the profits are the laborers who can’t even afford an apartment to themselves.
If you watch old shows like boy meets world, the dad was a manager of a fucking grocery store and had a stay at home wife and three kids in a huge house in the suburbs, and this was completely practical
